Day 14…
Fail.
Task 14: Re-learn the Greek alphabet
All of these successive fails are getting a little annoying. Clearly I am not appropriating the proper amount of time to the successful completion of these tasks. That’s it. I’m quitting my 2 jobs and devoting myself to being a task master! Task 1: Find cardboard box…
Yes, once again the planning of my day was not ideal. Yesterday I managed to memorize the names of most of the Greek letters, but if you put the letters themselves in front of me — the lowercase especially — I think I know maybe ¼ of them. I guess it’s a good thing I won’t be on that plane to Greece next weekend (umm, no it’s not). Fortunately, most of the Greek places I frequent use the Latin based alphabet, or at the very least write everything in both alphabets and usually English too. Come to think of it, most places I went in Greece did the same thing. That’s really too bad; Greek is an ancient language that’s actually managed to survive into the modern era but they still feel obligated to cater to the crazy westerners who can’t be bothered to learn a whole different alphabet. Luckily the majority of Greeks I know are very proud of being Greek. I don’t think that heritage will die out any time soon. Opa!
Being the lover that I am of all things Greek, I thought this would at least inspire some profound thoughts for me to write about. It has not. Evidently I should have read Aristotle or something. I did read that an archaeologist whose name I can neither remember nor pronounce (even the english version) may have found his tomb. Which I guess is kind of exciting. Or it would be if other archaeologists weren’t saying that it’s unlikely if not impossible to prove. Bunch of Negative Neds. According to the historical record he was cremated (Aristotle, not the archaeologist) so perhaps they should look for a big urn. Granted, it could be anyone’s urn but at least it’s a start.
Yes, now I’m just rambling to fill space.
In all honesty I do need to beef up my task list. The way this is supposed to work is that when a task is crossed off the list, a new task is added. My problem, however, is so many of my tasks require time that I just don’t have most days of the week. So I’ve divided the list into sections so that I can easily find one that suits the time constraints of any given day. Today, for example, I’m thinking of 30 new tasks for the list. I know what you’re thinking; that was my original challenge. But this list has to be made entirely of things I can do with only limited time in which to do them. Or, as is the case today, things I can do throughout the day while I’m still busy with other stuff. For example, for the past hour or so I’ve been thinking of things to add while attempting to make my apartment look a little less like Tornado Alley and a little more like a domestic domicile. Yes, it is sort of cheating but at least I’m not skipping yet another day! And these short, sweet projects are not so easy to come up with. So far I have four. Suggestions welcome. If I can’t come up with something to do in a given day then Erik gets to choose and I have to do it. If that’s not incentive…
Happy Weekend!
