Terrible Writing is Still Writing!
Day 22
Meh.
Task 22: Write 1000 words for an old, forgotten story.
Technically, it was a fail. I didn’t get to 1000 words — I fell asleep somewhere around 780. Also, it was terrible. I finally gave up actually trying to write the story itself and made some notes for myself recollecting why I began writing the story in the first place. It was based on a dream I had and, to be honest, I was surprised at how much of it I remembered. I couldn’t tell you what I dreamt last night but I miraculously recall one from four years ago. Go figure.
I should also mention it wasn’t the story with which I had originally planned to work. That one, I’m afraid, was hopeless. There was some lovely imagery but the actual story made me a little sick to my stomach. And not in that edge-of-your-seat kind of way. It was bad. The one I did work on isn’t pure genius or anything but at least it was compelling. I just didn’t have it in me to add anything further that would keep it compelling.
Which is rather apropos because I don’t have anything further to add right now! What can I say, I’m beat. Not quite as beat as the beast snoring next to me — Lola and I had quite the hiking adventure this morning. And then I planted my herb garden (yes, task for the day; hint: Win!), and I took my first restorative yoga class. Little tip, if you’ve never taken a restorative yoga class I highly recommend it. I had no idea what it was I had signed up for; I thought it would be a slow-moving, gentle Hatha yoga that would help me rehab my shoulder. But no, it’s so much better! It’s basically guided napping. And it’s fantastic. There are only a handful of poses, all involving bolsters, blankets, blocks — pretty much every yoga implement you can think of — and you move into these simple and lovely positions and… rest. That’s it. But you come out an hour and a half later feeling like Zen-filled awesomeness. Another little tip: after restorative yoga don’t drive near Lake Merritt on a nice Sunday afternoon. You can kiss that Zen-filled awesomeness adios!
Until tomorrow!
