Yes, I need to find photos that have something to do with the story; but look at that face!

Too Much Content.

Day 20

Epic, epic fail.

Task 20: Create a content strategy in one day

I’m sure many of you have had to create a content strategy. These days there are more content creators out there than one could shake that proverbial stick at. I know this because I’m pretty sure that in my quest for the perfect content strategy template I have read at least one article by all of them. I was under the ridiculous assumption that I could find a nice, simple outline with which to organize the ever increasing mountain of stories, articles, tidbits, etc. cluttering not one, but two desks. Between the day job and this little project, there’s just too much to keep straight. Such searches, however, are when my old pal The Instant Gratification Monkey* likes to rear his furry little Simian head and wreak complete chaos. Looking for a “simple” template led me to a decidedly complex and detailed template with any number of helpful extra links. Those, of course, led me to some great articles about “Optimal Key Words,” and “Maximizing ROI” (yes, thrilling stuff). These musings, in turn, led me to some research about AdRoll which of course had a pop-up for an article about the new Motorola phone. That landed me on Gizmodo’s website… In case there’s anyone in the United States (and probably most of the world) who doesn’t know about Gizmodo, for heaven’s sake please, procrastinators in particular, don’t look for it. You may as well move every appointment on your calendar forward 2 days — nothing is getting done.

I use Gizmodo quite a bit for my work newsletters when I need some fun fact or new gadget to talk about.

By the way, were you aware there are only 3 cities in the U.S. with good housing prices, abundant jobs and high quality of life? Gizmodo knows which ones.

Please, Bay Area folks, check out these cities. No, they don’t have waterfront property or big museums or a plethora of Michelin starred restaurants. But they’re far, far away from here and, frankly, it’d be nice to have some room to stretch out. There are too many people in my hula hoop.

I did finally manage to get a good chunk of my content outline finished. Of course my boss has decided to do a webinar so I had to spend a lot of time on that — which required a “best practices” search of its own. You can imagine how that went, I’m sure. That monkey in my brain has had a great workout these past couple of days.

Today I tried designing a logo. By hand. Because I don’t have Illustrator. Yes, I could’ve used Photoshop to mock something up but I have this whole sketch book with only one sketch so I thought I’d put it to use. Good think paper crumbles so well…

Happy Weekend!

*Not my creation — Tim Urban’s. See the first entry in this series for explanation.
